Ingredients

Scale

12 oz spaghetti or penne pasta

2 tbsp olive oil

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 small onion, diced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp dried basil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

3. Add onion and sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.

4. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.

6. Simmer sauce for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

7. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss until evenly coated with sauce.

8. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and toss lightly.

9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

Add cooked ground beef or Italian sausage for a heartier meal.

Use whole-wheat or gluten-free pasta if preferred.
