Description

A warm, comforting dish combining savory ground beef and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water for about 15–20 minutes until tender. Drain and mash with butter and heavy cream; season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the meat and vegetables: In a skillet, heat to medium-high, cook the beef and onion until browned. Drain excess fat, add the carrots and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Thicken the mixture: Stir in flour, then gradually add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Simmer until thickened, then fold in frozen peas.
  4. Assemble the pie: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the beef mixture in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, swirling for texture.
  5. Bake the pie: Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbling and golden. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pairs wonderfully with a green salad or crusty bread, and can be served with red wine or homemade lemonade.
