Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

2 tbsp strawberry jam or puree

Red or pink food coloring (optional)

Buttercream Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3 cups powdered sugar

2 tbsp heavy cream or milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Red or pink food coloring

Heart-shaped sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.

2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix until combined.

5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

6. Divide the batter in half. Mix strawberry jam and a few drops of red or pink food coloring into one half.

7. Add spoonfuls of both batters into each liner and swirl gently with a toothpick for a marble effect.

8. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. Cool completely before frosting.

10. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar.

11. Add milk, vanilla, and food coloring; beat until fluffy.

12. Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes and decorate with heart sprinkles.

Notes

Try alternating layers of vanilla and strawberry batter for a two-tone cupcake.

You can substitute raspberry or cherry jam for a different flavor twist.

Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
