Ingredients
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 garlic clove, halved
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp kirsch (optional)
3 oz Gruyère cheese, shredded
3 oz Emmental cheese, shredded
3 oz sharp white cheddar, shredded
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Pinch of nutmeg
For Dipping:
Cubed French bread or baguette
Steamed broccoli florets
Apple slices
Cherry tomatoes
Cooked baby potatoes
Instructions
1. Rub the inside of a small fondue pot or heavy saucepan with the cut sides of the garlic clove, then discard the garlic.
2. Add white wine and lemon juice; warm gently over medium heat (do not boil).
3. In a bowl, toss the shredded cheeses with cornstarch until evenly coated.
4. Gradually add cheese to the pot, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
5. Stir in kirsch (if using), pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
6. Adjust consistency with a splash of wine if too thick.
7. Transfer to a fondue pot with a low flame to keep warm.
8. Serve immediately with assorted dippers for a cozy, romantic meal.
Notes
Use high-quality cheese for the best texture and flavor.
If you don’t have kirsch, omit or replace with a splash of brandy.
Keep heat low to prevent the cheese from curdling.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with low-sodium chicken broth and a touch of lemon juice.
Pair with a glass of chilled white wine or champagne for the perfect Valentine’s experience!
