Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup whole milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp lemon zest (optional)
Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk or cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or Bundt cake pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
6. Stir in vanilla extract and lemon zest, if using.
7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
8. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
9. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
10. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
11. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake and let set before serving.
