Description
A soft, fluffy focaccia baked with sweet jam swirls and finished with a dusting of sugar. This jam donut focaccia combines the pillowy texture of Italian bread with the nostalgic flavor of a classic jam-filled donut.
Ingredients
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil (for pan)
1/2 cup strawberry or raspberry jam
2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
2 tbsp granulated or powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar; let sit until foamy.
2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, flour, and salt; mix until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
5. Generously oil a baking pan and press dough evenly into the pan.
6. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
7. Use your fingers to dimple the dough and spoon jam into the indentations.
8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 22–25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
9. Brush hot focaccia with melted butter and allow to cool slightly.
10. Finish with a dusting of sugar before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use thick jam to prevent excessive spreading during baking.
Best enjoyed warm on the day it’s made.
Try different jams like apricot or blackberry for variation.
Leftovers can be reheated briefly for a fresh-from-the-oven feel.
