Ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
Extra granulated sugar for rolling
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
4. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
5. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
7. Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place on prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set and just beginning to turn golden.
9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For thicker cookies, chill dough for 10 minutes before baking.
Add sprinkles or colored sugar to the dough balls for a festive look.
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
