These Chocolate Heart Lava Cakes are rich, decadent, and perfect for a romantic dessert! With a gooey molten chocolate center and a tender cake exterior, they’re easy to make yet guaranteed to impress anyone on Valentine’s Day or special occasions.
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing)
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
2 large eggs
2 large egg yolks
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Fresh berries or whipped cream, for serving
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease 4 heart-shaped ramekins with butter and lightly dust with cocoa powder.
2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter and chocolate together in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, egg yolks, sugar, and salt until pale and slightly thickened.
4. Add melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract; whisk until combined.
5. Fold in flour gently until just incorporated.
6. Divide batter evenly among prepared ramekins.
7. Place ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 11–13 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.
8. Let cool for 1 minute, then run a knife around the edges and invert each cake onto a plate.
9. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with whipped cream or fresh berries.
Notes
You can prepare the batter ahead and refrigerate up to 24 hours — just add 1 extra minute to baking time.
For a flavor twist, add a teaspoon of espresso powder or a splash of orange liqueur to the batter.
Best served immediately for that perfect molten center!
