Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp instant coffee or espresso powder

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

Coffee Frosting:

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 tbsp instant coffee dissolved in 1 tbsp hot water

12 tbsp milk or cream

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

3. Stir in instant coffee or espresso powder.

4. Add cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder; mix until just combined.

5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

6. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

7. Cool completely before frosting.

8. For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy.

9. Add powdered sugar, dissolved coffee, vanilla, and milk; beat until smooth and fluffy.

10. Spread frosting evenly over cooled brownies and cut into squares.

Notes

For an extra coffee punch, sprinkle espresso powder on top of the frosting.

Add chocolate chips or walnuts to the batter for more texture.

Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
