Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
Red or pink food coloring (optional)
Vanilla Buttercream:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Food coloring (pink, red, or white)

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix well.
5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture until fully incorporated.
6. If desired, tint the batter with red or pink food coloring for a festive look.
7. Divide the batter evenly among cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
8. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
9. Cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
10. For the buttercream, beat butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar gradually.
11. Add milk and vanilla extract, beating until light and fluffy. Tint with desired color.
12. Pipe frosting onto cupcakes and top each with a Brach’s Conversation Heart for the perfect Valentine’s touch.
