For the Chocolate Loaf Cake:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

3/4 cup milk


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a small loaf pan.

2. Prepare the strawberry cake by creaming butter and sugar until fluffy.

3. Add egg, vanilla, and milk, then mix in flour, baking powder, and salt.

4. Tint batter with food coloring and pour into prepared pan.

5. Bake for 20–25 minutes until set. Cool completely.

6. Slice strawberry cake into 1-inch thick slices and cut heart shapes using a cookie cutter.

7. Prepare chocolate batter by creaming butter and sugar, then adding eggs and vanilla.

8. Mix in cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, salt, and milk until smooth.

9. Pour a thin layer of chocolate batter into a greased loaf pan.

10. Stand heart cutouts upright in a row down the center of the pan.

11. Carefully spoon remaining chocolate batter around and over the hearts.

12. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
