Description

A quick and delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak using ground beef.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 68 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie or sub rolls
  • 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté these veggies until they are soft and caramelized, which takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Cook the ground beef: Once the onions and bell peppers are ready, add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook the beef until it is browned. If there is excess grease, drain it off.
  3. Add garlic and sauce: After the beef is cooked, stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch to create a slurry. Pour this mixture into the skillet along with Worcestershire sauce. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Melt the cheese: Reduce the heat to low. Lay the provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet and let it cook until the cheese melts.
  5. Toast the rolls: Split the hoagie rolls. Spread butter on each side and toast them in a separate pan until golden and crispy.
  6. Assemble the cheesesteaks: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into each toasted roll. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to customize with additional toppings like hot sauce or sautéed mushrooms.
