Description
A quick and delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak using ground beef.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 6–8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie or sub rolls
- 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté these veggies until they are soft and caramelized, which takes about 5 minutes.
- Cook the ground beef: Once the onions and bell peppers are ready, add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook the beef until it is browned. If there is excess grease, drain it off.
- Add garlic and sauce: After the beef is cooked, stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch to create a slurry. Pour this mixture into the skillet along with Worcestershire sauce. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Melt the cheese: Reduce the heat to low. Lay the provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet and let it cook until the cheese melts.
- Toast the rolls: Split the hoagie rolls. Spread butter on each side and toast them in a separate pan until golden and crispy.
- Assemble the cheesesteaks: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into each toasted roll. Serve warm and enjoy!
