- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (optional)
- Your choice of frosting (buttercream, cream cheese, etc.)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with flour mixture; mix until just combined.
- Add food coloring if desired and fold gently.
- Fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full with batter.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Frost and decorate once completely cool.
