Description
This Easy French Toast Casserole is your ultimate weekend breakfast hack — soft, custardy bread baked with cinnamon, vanilla, and brown sugar for the perfect make-ahead brunch dish. Crispy on top, creamy inside, and absolutely irresistible!
Ingredients
1 loaf French bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes
6 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter, melted
TOPPING (optional but amazing):
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and add cubed bread evenly across the bottom.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread cubes, gently pressing down so all pieces soak up the custard.
4. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 2 hours.
5. If using the topping, mix brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and nuts, then sprinkle evenly over the casserole before baking.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until puffed and golden.
7. Drizzle with maple syrup or dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Use day-old bread for the best texture.
Customize with fruit — add sliced bananas, blueberries, or apples before baking.
Can be prepped the night before for an easy morning meal.
Leftovers reheat beautifully and even taste great cold!
