- 6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt the butter in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the skillet.
- Season the first layer of potatoes with salt and pepper.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top of the potatoes.
- Pour half of the heavy cream over the layers.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream.
- Cover the skillet with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the potatoes are golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley before serving.
Notes
Let the dish sit for about 10 minutes before serving to help the layers set.
