Description

A delightful snack or appetizer featuring crispy mini blooming onions served with a zesty creamy buttermilk ranch dip.


Ingredients

  • Mini onions
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the tops and bottoms off each mini onion and peel away the outer skin.
  2. Cut the onions into 12 to 16 segments from the top down, keeping the base intact.
  3. In a bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. Dip each onion into buttermilk to coat, then roll in the flour mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Fry the onions in batches for 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Mix buttermilk with ranch seasoning in a small bowl for the dip.
  8. Drain fried onions on paper towels and serve hot with ranch dip.

Notes

For best results, serve immediately after frying. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
