- Mini onions
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Slice the tops and bottoms off each mini onion and peel away the outer skin.
- Cut the onions into 12 to 16 segments from the top down, keeping the base intact.
- In a bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Dip each onion into buttermilk to coat, then roll in the flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the onions in batches for 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Mix buttermilk with ranch seasoning in a small bowl for the dip.
- Drain fried onions on paper towels and serve hot with ranch dip.
Notes
For best results, serve immediately after frying. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
