Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup vanilla custard
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Pour warm milk into a bowl, sprinkle the yeast over the milk, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes to activate.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the activated yeast mixture and eggs to the dry ingredients; stir to form a dough.
  4. Gradually mix in the softened butter and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Punch down the risen dough, divide into golf ball-sized pieces, shape them into balls, and flatten slightly.
  8. Place a spoonful of vanilla custard and a few chocolate chips in the center of each flattened ball; fold and seal.
  9. Arrange filled brioches on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and fluffy.
  11. Cool on a wire rack and serve warm.

Notes

Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze for added sweetness. Serve with coffee, tea, or fresh fruit.
