Description

Delicious muffins made with savory ground breakfast sausage and rich cheddar cheese, perfect for busy mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage (cooked and crumbled)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (regular or gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or sugar
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • Additional cheese (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and maple syrup in a large bowl.
  4. Add the cooked sausage and grated cheddar cheese to the flour mixture.
  5. Whisk together the milk, egg, and remaining maple syrup in a separate bowl.
  6. Combine the milk mixture with the flour mixture, followed by the melted butter. Stir until just combined.
  7. Fill each muffin tin with batter, topping with additional cheese if desired.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  9. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Serve warm with sides like fresh fruit or yogurt.

Notes

Store muffins at room temperature for 1-2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. Freezing is also an option for longer storage.
