Description

A delicious and mouth-watering dish combining the best elements of a classic cheesesteak sandwich with buttery garlic bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large loaf of Italian or French bread
  • 1 lb of thinly sliced beef (like ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cups provolone or mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 4 tablespoons of butter, softened
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: hot sauce for serving
  • Optional: freshly chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter with the minced garlic to create a garlic butter spread.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat, add sliced onions and green bell pepper, and sauté for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 4 to 6 minutes until browned.
  5. Remove from heat and add 1.5 cups of shredded cheese, stirring until melted.
  6. Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise to create a pocket.
  7. Spread garlic butter generously on both halves of the bread.
  8. Fill one half of the loaf with the cheesesteak mixture and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  9. Close the loaf with the other half and press down gently.
  10. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  11. Unwrap and bake for an additional 5 minutes for a crispy crust.
  12. Cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve warm, garnished with parsley or served with hot sauce.

Notes

Best served warm with marinara sauce or hot sauce for dipping. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
