Description

A warm and comforting dish featuring tender beef tips in savory gravy served over creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ pounds beef tips, sirloin or stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried herbs (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by heating 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the beef tips in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  2. Sear the beef for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown, then remove the beef tips to a plate and let them rest.
  3. In the same pot, add 1 small chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  4. Next, stir in 2 minced cloves of garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Lower the heat to medium and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the onions and garlic; cook for about 1 minute.
  6. Gradually pour in 2 cups of beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps until smooth.
  7. Return the browned beef to the pot. Add 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. If desired, stir in any dried herbs.
  8. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle simmer.
  9. Cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to cook for 25-30 minutes until beef is tender.
  10. Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning as needed before serving over mashed potatoes, garnished with parsley.

Notes

For homemade mashed potatoes, incorporate roasted garlic or cream cheese for added richness. This dish can be made ahead and reheated, making it perfect for meal prep.
