A delicious dessert combining the moistness of banana bread with the fudginess of brownies, perfect for using up overripe bananas.

- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, add vanilla extract, and stir in the mashed bananas.
- In another bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the banana mixture until just combined.
- If desired, fold in chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth out the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Prepare the glaze by melting butter, then whisking in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the glaze over warm brownies and allow to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
For enhanced flavor, use overripe bananas. You can also vary the recipe by adding chocolate chips or using peanut butter.
