Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and mashed bananas.
- Gradually add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Mix gently until just combined. Fold in the nuts if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
- For the glaze, melt ¼ cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Whisk in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- After baking, pour the glaze over the warm brownies and let cool before slicing into squares.
- Enjoy the brownies warm or cooled. They can be served on their own or with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Use ripe bananas for optimal sweetness. Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the brownies tender.
